Wishart and Ramsey Win Orange Classic Titles

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Freshman David Wishart and junior Christine Ramsey each won the first race of their careers on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Orange Classic held at Drumlins Country Club. Wishart finished with a time of 27:24.07 in the 8K race to claim the men’s overall title, while Ramsey posted a time of 19:34.17 in the women’s 5K competition.
The Syracuse men won the overall championship with 23 points, finishing ahead of Massachusetts (45 pts.), Delhi (84 pts.), Binghamton (85 pts.), Le Moyne (142 pts.), Niagara (198 pts.), and St. Rose (195 pts.).
Sophomores Chris Muldoon, John Graham and senior Nathan Rath joined Wishart in the top 10. Muldoon placed second with time of 27:24.33 and Graham finished the race in 27:53.32 to claim the fourth position. Rath placed seventh, crossing the finish line in 28:30.47.
Junior Tim Scarpinato ran unattached and placed fifth, completing the course in 28:22.03.
On the women’s side, SU earned 58 points to finish third in the seven-team field behind Binghamton (27 pts.) and Massachusetts (54 pts.). Junior Leah Folmsbee was the Orangewomen’s second finisher, placing eighth with a time of 20:23.56. Senior Lauren Rich placed 12th, posting a time of 20:42.09. Four freshman, Shelby Perkins (21:04.21), Amanda Hicks (21:14.34), Kathryn Reintjes (21:20.19) and Katie Simon (21:23.18) claimed the18th-22nd positions.
It the second consecutive year Syracuse performers have won both races at the event. Last season, John Bitok won the men’s crown, while Aleccia Boland claimed first place in the women’s race.
Syracuse’s next race will be on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Maryland.
